As you may have heard, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, sadly passed away earlier this year. Betsy’s cause of death was Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome, a respiratory illness that can be transmitted by infected rodents, or airborne rodent urine, droppings, or saliva. There is no cure for hantavirus-driven illness. Now, the BBC is reporting that while their home was clean with no signs of rodent activity, rodent nests were found in some of the buildings on their property.

This is a tragic reminder that you should not limit your IPM (integrated pest management) strategies to residences alone—you need to treat the entire surrounding environment. In addition, prevention of rodent infestations is just as important as treatment. As this unfortunate case demonstrates, individuals can be affected by rodents even if there are no signs of infestation in the home.

To help prevent Hantavirus, a diverse IPM strategy that uses both prevention and treatment tactics is required. JT Eaton is here with a diverse line of rodent control solutions that can be deployed in all types of environments. Our glue traps, snap traps, multiple catch traps, and bait stations are highly effective, and our bait solutions are available in formulations designed for various environments, such as wet, humid areas and areas where water is not available.
